Description
Yame Cedar & Tabu Incense
The forest, in a single stick.
This isn’t the incense you’ll find everywhere else. No synthetic fragrance. Just two pure ingredients—Japanese cedar boughs and tabu tree leaves—hand-collected from mountain forests and crafted the way it’s been done for over a century.
A tradition on the edge of disappearing
Deep in the mountains of Yame, a 100-year-old wooden mill sits beside a river. Inside, fourth-generation craftsman Tsutsumi-san carries on his family’s work—pulverizing cedar and tabu leaves through the night, mixing the powder with fresh well water, pressing it into long strands like pasta, and air-drying each stick before hand-sorting them one by one.
There used to be 20 mills like this in Yame. Today, only two remain.
Is this scent right for you?
Scent is personal, so here’s the honest truth:
This incense is smoky, earthy, and grounding—think sweet campfire in a forest, not a perfume counter. Many describe it as “nostalgic,” like a scent from childhood.
People who love it say:
-
“Just a subtle wood smell which I like. Pure and simple.” —Ross
-
“Smells very calming and pure unlike the ones with too much unnecessary fragrance.” —Anita
People who don’t love it say:
-
“It smells like leaves burning on a campfire.”
-
“It’s smokier than I’m used to.”
The bottom line:
If heavily perfumed incense gives you headaches and you prefer natural, earthy scents—you’ll probably love this. If you’re hoping for something similar to mass-market Japanese incense brands, this may not be your match.
